[OSENWORLD] It may come as a surprise to some, but South Korean President Lee Jae-myung also finds time for Netflix—recently attending a special screening of K-Pop Demon Hunters and even referencing the film during a cabinet meeting. His interest underscores just how deeply K-pop and Korean cultural content have entered the mainstream conversation.
Building on that momentum, the presidential office confirmed on August 19 that Lee will join a roundtable on Arirang TV’s special program K-Pop: The Next Chapter, airing August 20 at 5 p.m. KST. The broadcast will explore the future of K-pop and Korea’s broader cultural content strategy.
Joining the discussion are Maggie Kang, co-director of K-Pop Demon Hunters; Jihyo and Jeongyeon of TWICE, who contributed to the film’s soundtrack; producer R.Tee; and music critic Kim Young-dae. Broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu will serve as moderator.
“The insights and perspectives shared during this program will help inform future cultural policy directions,” the presidential office said in a statement. “For Korea to strengthen its standing as one of the world’s top five soft-power nations, the sustained growth and innovation of industries such as K-pop are essential.”
During the broadcast, Lee is expected to share his impressions of the film while outlining his vision for Korea’s path as a global cultural leader.
